Pivot Drill

Players form 2 lines at center ice.

On the whistle one player from each line skates hard to the pylon at the far end of the face-off circles and pivots into backwards skating.

Players skate backwards to the next pylon and then pivot to forward skating.

Players skate hard to the pylon on the blue line and pivot to backward skating.

Players skate backwards between blue lines and then pivot again at the pylon on the far blue line.

Players skate forward hard to the next pylon at the hash marks and pivot into backwards skating.

Players skate backwards to the next pylon and pivot into forward skating.

Players skate hard to the back of the lines on the opposite side of the ice from which they started.

This gives the players practice in pivoting in both left and right directions.

After the players get used to the drill you can have players do the drill carrying pucks.

All pivots have to be done at the pylons.

Watch the players closely, some will try to pivot before the pylon and some will pivot after rounding the pylon.
